About Trogir
Trogir, Split-Dalmatia, Croatia.
Trogir is a small island town just west of Split, known for its old stone streets, waterfront promenade, fortified walls and layered Mediterranean history.
Its historic centre is protected by UNESCO and offers one of the most concentrated old-town experiences on the Croatian coast: churches, palaces, towers, small squares, sea views and a relaxed summer rhythm.
The historic centre is protected as a rare example of continuous urban life through many centuries.
A short transfer makes Trogir an easy first or last stop during a Dalmatian trip.
City story
More than 2,300 years of urban tradition.
Trogir was founded by Greek colonists in the 3rd century BC as Tragurion. Through the centuries it was shaped by Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, the Habsburg Empire, the French, Yugoslavia and modern Croatia.
Venice ruled the city after 1420 for almost four centuries, leaving a strong architectural and cultural mark. Today, the old town feels like an open-air museum, but still lives as a real coastal town full of cafés, restaurants, apartments, boats and evening walks.
